The spring-loaded catch mechanism is maker marked and dated very faintly rrn 42 an unknown maker code seen on many similar clips from gas mask canisters

One of a Kind. This is an interesting captured item with a great bit of provenance, a Japanese barometer with the glass shattered, possibly battle damaged, presented by 1st Lieutenant W. L. Kay, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, to the Captain of the USS Minnesota in appreciation of the naval gunfire support given to them. The barometer has two notes with it, both of which are heavily eaten away at, possibly by bookworms. It was taken
