There are some scattered minor losses to the surface of the frame

stained a rich dark brown

A written note on the back of the frame describes the subject as "Robert Southey in 1836"

One sees decorated paper rounds like this made like snowflakes, by folding then cutting usually described as valentines, and the best of them decorated with hand written poetic verses, or watercolored flowers, etc. but this is the first I've seen with German
