and the Ordnance flaming bomb is embossed on the hinge end

as well as the addition of 4 steel “flutes” which run the length of the barrel and increased strength

it was found that the Henry rifled barrel affected a natural deflection at ranges beyond 600 yards

The butt plate is stamped 6

and the later 987s and 2987 had center seconds

Made at the great arsenal at ERFURT just outside Berlin this extremely rare pre WW1 bayonet is marked on the back of the blade with a Crown over W, over 02. It is further marked with a Crown over ERFURT on the ricasso and the cross guard which has the early horns is nicely regimentally marked R. 2. P. 3. 75. No scabbard came with this "sleeper" which we just received from an estate auction. It is still in untouched
